A bit about the role...

Working as part of Homes England’s central Governance team, led by Peter Judge, our Company Secretary and Assistant Director - Governance, you as the Assistant Company Secretary - Cambridge will play a critical role in supporting the Cambridge Growth Company (CGC), a subsidiary of Homes England, during its formative stages and beyond.

You will be joining our small but highly skilled and experienced Governance team, who are committed to making positive contributions and continual improvements to how we manage our key decision-making.

We believe in delivering a first-class customer service, excellent delivery and taking an innovative and creative approach to delegation and governance issues. This includes working in a collaborative/flexible way to foster good decision making and problem solving within the team and across the Agency.

This is a rare chance to shape the future governance structures in a fast-growing project with real social purpose and a lasting impact.

Working with key stakeholders and as part of a professional team, you will help ensure an effective secretariat and governance service to the CGC Chair, Board, the Executive and committees, including the CGC’s advisory council.   As a full part of the Homes England Governance Team, you will also have the opportunity to support Homes England’s wider governance at its group of companies.

The CGC project is likely to transfer to a stand-alone development corporation in the next few years, this post may be in scope to transfer to that successor organisation at an appropriate time. It will require regular office attendance in Cambridge as part of hybrid working arrangements.

A bit about you…

You'll be comfortable supporting the Company Secretary, working as part of the wider governance team to facilitate timely and compliant decision making and recording those decisions. You will also be comfortable working on complex governance issues and ensuring statutory compliance and reporting.

You will be content working in a complex stakeholder environment and with senior stakeholders. You will be proficient in minute taking, Companies Act compliance, strategic forward planning Board and committee business, and undertaking meeting support administration. You will be able to work autonomously, particularly around your CGC Board secretary duties, whilst reporting to senior colleagues in the Governance team in a matrix management environment.

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a Governance team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.

As an experienced governance professional, you’ll understand how to engage colleagues at all levels and manage a varied workload. You will be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.
